Hawaii Swap and New In Colours

So I never told you about my swap cards for my trip to Hawaii with Stampin' Up!.  Suffice to say, I was in a bit of a pickle. You see, almost ALL my stamp supplies are still clear across in the country in Nova Scotia and I'm in British Columbia, with just a few markers, a couple stamp sets and minimal supplies. Prior to getting my pre-order from the upcoming new catalogue (which starts June 2nd) - I didn't even have any ink pads, except for my Black Memento.  I do have my Big Shot and a punch and my Butterfly Thinlits, but that my friends, is it. EVERYTHING else is back home, due to the fact that my husband and I are in the midst of moving West (I came ahead of my hubby).

So I'm in withdrawls, lemme tell ya. That's also why I haven't been able to create new projects or videos for you the last few weeks. The good news is my sweet hubby is sending out my supplies via bus later this week so that I can have them. Lord, I love that man. In the meantime, however, I still needed to come up with a design for my card swaps with other demonstrators on our Hawaiian vacation. I was stumped. I have been so busy that even finding the time to stamp has been a massive challenge. Then I came up with a plan (the night prior to the trip...*ahem*...).  I would wrap rubber bands around a clear block and stamp in Versamark and emboss in gold to create the background for my card - it would be gorgeous. Well, it was in my head, anyway.  As I dug through the few supplies I had with me I realized NO versamark was to be found. Ugh. That ruled out the heat embossing. I needed a plan B and I needed it FAST.

In the end, it's a basic card that is perfect for beginner stampers and for those who don't have a lot of supplies or for those who are just in need of making a quick card. My swaps absolutely paled in comparison of the swaps from the other demonstrators, which were absolutely works of art.  However, it was the best I could do, under the circumstances. When life hands you lemons, as they say, right?

Here's what I came up with:
