A Reason to Celebrate - Happy Canada Day!

Hi Friends! Today we are celebrating Canada Day and I've always been so grateful to live in a country as great as this one...

I was born and raised on Vancouver Island and now I live clear across the country on the East Coast, in Nova Scotia. I've driven across this great nation of ours three times - so I'm lucky to have been to almost all the provinces (I've yet to visit Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories). Canada is incredibly beautiful and I am so lucky to live in a country of peace & freedom.

Yesterday my sweet friend Stephanie came over to spend the day and of course we stamped and created (and gabbed, drank good coffee and ate yummy food, stamped and gabbed some more!). Time sure flew by fast and it was so awesome just to hang out in my little stamp studio. The card I'm sharing with you today is one I made to commemorate Canada Day and I had sooooo much FUN making it! It was also fun to have Stephanie add in her two cents on my card. For example, I wanted to add some rhinestones to finish my card. As it turned out, I'm completely out of rhinestones! GASP! (You can bet I'll be placing an order ASAP!). So Stephanie suggested I add some silver sequins instead - perfect! She also thought it would be nice to place the sentiment under the stamped layer, instead of a punched embellishment as I was going to do - what a great idea! So my finished card - with the help of my friend - looks like this:

First I stamped the solid maple leaf from the Colorful Season stamp with Lovely Lipstick ink and then stamped on top with versamark and set with clear embossing powder. This is really easy to do with the stamparatus! Then I used the swirl image from the new "Stylish Christmas" set and embossed once in clear and then stamped it again and embossed with white.  Then I used my aqua painter and ink pads to add a wash of colour to the Shimmery White card stock. The grid image is from Best Birds (crumb cake ink) and I also added some cherry cobbler ink spots (from Timeless Textures). I stamped a second maple leaf and added it to the card with a stampin' dimensional. The twine was leftover from a Paper Pumpkin kit (love it). I really enjoyed making this card!!! And if you are Canadian also then I wish you a Happy Canada Day and a wonderful weekend!
