Creative Holiday Retreat

September 17, 2018 3 Comments

Hi Friends! This past Saturday was my one day Creative Holiday Retreat and it was a smashing success! We had sooo much FUN! The retreat started at 10am and finished at 7pm, so it was a full day of crafting and stamping. I had to cap off the number of attendees to 16, mostly due to space in the centre that I used for the event. However, I do prefer smaller groups as I find it more intimate and easier for everyone to visit together and more one on one with me, so that I can help everyone during the classes.

I am excited to share all the projects with you over the next week, as I’ll also be doing videos for you too. We had four mini classes: five cards, five tags and two gift classes. Here is the first card we made and I’ll post the others over the next few days:

This was an easy card to put together and everyone loved using the new holiday catalogue products!

When everyone arrived for the retreat, I had gift bags waiting for them on the tables. To decorate the bags, I used the new Falling for Leaves Bundle, Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper (this DSP is absolutely GORGEOUS) and the Making Christmas Bright stamp set for the tag. Speaking of tag, the name tags were super cute with the Spirited Snowmen set! Inside the bags were supplies for all of the classes and projects, as well as Stampin’ Dimensionals and little treats. This treat was super easy to make, but so pretty:
To wrap the York Peppermint Chocolates, I used a strip of Tranquil Tide card stock that I had run through the Big Shot with the new Swirls & Curls embossing folder. Next, I cut the tops with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and wrapped with Real Red Ribbon. The tags were stamped with the Itty Bitty set and I spritzed the treat holders with Champagne Shimmer Mist.

Throughout the day I gave little gifts to each of the ladies, and this was the first special gift that I passed out during the card making class:

Holy Moley, right?  Sugar cookies decorated with our Cable Knit Embossing Folder! My lovely friend, Debbie Matheson, made them for me and I was s’mitten with them! Didn’t she do a great job?! Everyone loved them.
I also cooked the meals for our special event. I baked five quiche pies for lunch and three pans of lasagna, both served with fresh salad and rolls. I also made a gluten free/keto quiche and lasagne for those on dietary restrictions, as well as some gluten free brownies. For everyone one else I served assorted bar squares and pies for dessert. Those (and the buns) were purchased from the Heatherton Activity Centre, which is where our event was held and where I volunteer for monthly card making classes. This centre is near and dear to my heart, as their clients are adults with learning disabilities and my aunt belongs to a similar centre back home in BC. I LOVE volunteering at this non-profit centre and many of my retreat guests also purchased baking to take home with them after our event. The pies we had for dessert were Coconut Cream, Lemon Meringue and Butterscotch. Nobody left hungry, that’s for sure!
This keto lasagne had zucchini (from my garden) to replace the pasta noodles and I served the gluten free brownies with fresh whipped cream, sweetened with stevia and some vanilla.
I also had lots of cards and projects, as well as swap samples from the Stampin’ Up! Alaskan Cruise, on display, for lots of inspiration!

Phew! Lots of photos for you today, right? And I’ve still got tons more to share with you, specifically of the projects from our retreat classes, as well as the other gifts I gave to everyone. Be sure to visit each day this week to see those, as well as the videos I’ll be posting. Speaking of which, during the retreat I shared a couple of live videos on my Serene Stamper Facebook page which you can check out here.

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…

Tina it was a wonderful day. I don't know what I enjoyed the most – the projects or the food! That was the best quiche I've ever eaten (and I wasn't the only one who said that!) But the cards and tags and gifts were lovely too.
You surely spoiled us with treats and games and prizes (and schnapps). Thanks for all your hard work and your creativity!

Aww, thanks so much Carol! It was important to me that everyone left the retreat feeling like they had an amazing day, as I never take it for granted that you gave your time to spend with me! I LOVED seeing you and I am so happy you enjoyed yourself. Recipe for quiche coming! LOL xoxo

Now that was a fun post. It certainly looks like you had a wonderful day. Your gift bags turned out beautifully as did those sugar cookies you had made. The cable knit is perfect for those mittons. You baked up a delicious menu. Love the plaid on your Christmas card with that deer.
