My Grandma Zinck turns 91 years young tomorrow! Grandma can wup your butt over a game of triple Yahtzee and you don’t stand a chance when she pulls out the scrabble board (I swear she knows every word in the English language, and if there’s every any doubt, Grandma always has her well-used Webster’s Dictionary handy). And every weekend Grandma enjoys working on the crossword challenge in the Victoria Times Columnist Newspaper (hardest ones ever, in my opinion). And did I mention that Grandma took up golfing in her 70’s??? Holey cow. I even enjoyed playing a few rounds of golf with her. She doesn’t golf any more, mind you, but she’s still busy baking treats for her family to enjoy and making hay while the sun shines.
One of the things I miss most about living back home on Vancouver Island is having tea with Grandma. You could pop in any time (except for early mornings – Grandma does enjoy a good sleep in!) and Grandma would have the kettle on. Her East Coast (Nova Scotia) traits are still obvious with her down-home ways: good cookin, made from scratch, and nobody leaves the house hungry! My Grandpa was the same way, when he was alive. Grandma misses him a lot – they were married for more than 60 years! Wish I could celebrate her birthday with her this year (cost of flights across the country are atrocious) so instead I made her a very special birthday card, with a whole lot of love – I hope she likes it:
