Lasting Lily Sympathy Card

February 13, 2019 7 Comments

We all love making cards, but sometimes we have to make ‘difficult’ cards too. The sympathy card I’m sharing with you today was a tough one to make.

Yesterday my friend and neighbour, Edna, lost her battle with cancer. I wasn’t prepared for it – even though we knew it was going to happen. We had just visited with Edna this past weekend – she was doing pretty darn good! We had no idea it would be last time we’d see her.

Having good neighbours is a special thing – you become a unique little tribe. Neighbours look out for one another, keep an eye on your home when you’re not around, pop over for a tea, talk about the weather, and share yard advice! There are four homes at the end of our lane and we all get along great! We have summer BBQ’s together and over the holidays we all gather around the Christmas tree to share a festive drink (or two) and some nibbles. During the warmer months, when Edna would see me putzin’ in my garden, she’d stroll on over and we’d have a good gab.  Often we’d sit in the lawn chairs and enjoy a glass of wine together. She’d give me tips about planting garlic in the fall, I’d share my ideas for new flower beds. We’d just sit and enjoy a break in the sunshine, chatting away. Edna wasn’t just a neighbour – she became someone dear to my heart and I’ll sure miss her.

I’m not going to lie, making this card for Edna’s family wasn’t easy, but I’m so glad we have stamps, ink and paper to create something from our heart, to share our love and thoughts with others.

The sentiment I used is from the “Blissful Blooms” August 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…

    Manon

Beautiful card. So sorry for the loss of your friend. Even though it's been a while, the loss is still there.

I am hoping you can explain how you made the lily so beautiful. When I stamp it, it looks like a blob. Did you color the stamp instead of inking it?

Hi Julie. Thank you for your comment and kind words. I stamped the image. It also makes a difference to have something like the Stampin' Pierce Mat under the paper before stamping. here's the link for that: https://www.stampinup.ca/products/stampin-pierce-mat?dbwsdemoid=1000037 Hopefully this helps you!
