Hi Everyone!  Today I’m sharing a card with you that I created for my Aunt Gerri.  I wanted my Aunt’s birthday card to be very special and there was a LOT of love put into it and I must say, I really enjoyed making this card.  I used the new “Affection Collection” stamp set that I received at the Stampin’ Up! convention.  I’ll be honest, I don’t think I would have purchased this stamp set, but once I got it..well, it’s right up there with one of my favourite stamp sets.  Isn’t that always the way? Once you play with a stamp set you didn’t think you’d like, you discover you love it?  🙂

STAMPS:
Affection Collection

 Teeny Tiny Wishes

En Francais
Music Notes (wheel)

(Aunt Gerri loved her card, by the way.  YAY!)
My Aunt and I are really close and always have been.  She often tells me I’m the daughter she never had (she has two boys – my awesome cousins, Gerald and Dave).   My Uncle has a job that has had them living in places such as Hungary and Chile.  (They LOVED living in Chile).  And now they’re back home British Columbia. I have kept some wonderful letters that my Aunt sent me over the years when they lived in other countries.  Aunt Gerri would speak about the different customs, the foods, the cultures, and the people.  I’ve often said she should compile her stories into a book, because she made you feel as if you were there with her, with all the details she’d include.  Aunt Gerri even formed a group for people who arrived in the country (for work, like her and my Uncle) so that she could help them adjust and learn the ways of the place.  Something as simple as buying flour was different than back in North America. I also recall a story about my Aunt and Uncle having dinner (I THINK this was while they were living in Hungary) and soldiers rushed into the restaurant, with their machine guns, demanding to see everyone’s passports.  Yikes.  I think I’d be skipping dessert at that point and heading back home!
Aunt Gerri has also been fighting non-Hodgkins Lymphoma since 2007.  Because this particular kind of cancer is so rare it’s been really hard to treat it.  My Aunt and Uncle became very active with “Light the Night” with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  A few years ago they helped raise over $23,050 in Vancouver and another $9000+ in Calgary and another $15,000 in corporate pledges from companies in the flooring industry where my Aunt has worked.  That’s approx. $47,050 in funds raised! WOW!  I think that’s a huge testament as well, that shows how loved and respected my Aunt is.  My Uncle, by the way, is pretty darn special too, for being her number one supporter and for all that he does for her, and for helping to make a difference.
Did you know:
  •  Every 38 minutes someone in Canada is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 79 minutes, someone loses the battle.
  • Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer

If you’re interested in participating the next walk you can click HERE to find the dates in your province.  Depending on where you live some walks are in September and some are in October.  (If you live in the United States click HERE).  Because there is no walk in New Brunswick (the closest walk is in Halifax) I will be doing my own special Scrapbook Fundraiser, and this will become one of my annual events.  Here are the details:

AvatarI joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…

Hi Tina, Love your card for your aunt. That's the kind of aunt everyone wants, she sounds like a treasure. I would love to hear of all her stories from foreign lands. So what happened in the restaurant – its like a book you can't finish, haha. What did you uncle do as a job to send him to Hungary/Chile?
Take care my convention friend, from Kathy in Saskatchewan
