Happy Friday!  I can’t believe it’s the weekend already!  I’m looking forward to it though – I am having my “Wine and Craft” night on Saturday with seven of my friends.  This is something I started in November and it’s a ton of fun.  Once a month my friends and I vote on a pinterest project that we want to make.  Once the votes are in everyone chips in to pay for the supplies and appeys and then we enjoy each other’s company while we create our project!  It’s also a great way to break up the winter blues and have some laughs!!!  What have you got planned for the weekend?

I have a very dear friend who just celebrated her 60th birthday and I really wanted to make her a super special card.  Well, I knew a “Card in the Box” was just the ticket!  If you missed my recent post and video on how to make this super coolieo project click HERE.  I spent a bit of extra time making this card but I was in my element.  I soooo enjoyed creating it, and of course, thinking about my friend as I did so.  Don’t you find we do that? We can’t help but think of those we care about as we stamp our cards for them.

For my friend’s card I used the new “Petite Petals” stamp set and coordinating punch, along with the “Flower Shop” stamp set and Pansy Punch.  I also used a wonderful little “Happy Birthday” stamp that is part of the stamp set in the “Everyday Occasions” kit. Speaking of which, this kit has been one of my top sellers since it came out and it’s absolutely PERFECT for gift giving too!

I stamped the “Happy Birthday” three times, using different inks, and then cut and layered them using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I added a little bit of Dazzling Details to the cake, the tiny banner and also on the butterfly.  Candy Dots were using in the centre of the flowers, with a sprinkling of Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the petals.

On the back of the card I used a stamp from the “Really Good Greetings” set.  Oh, and I airbrushed out my friend’s name, just in case she doesn’t want the world to know she’s 60! Not that there’s anything wrong with 60 – in fact, she loved my little message about being ‘babe-ilicious’…hee hee!

I created a co-ordinating envelope using the Envelope Punch Board and I sealed with a little bit of wax (I’ve done this for years – and it’s perfect now that I make so many envelopes!).

To complete my friend’s birthday gift I baked some fresh scones and tucked them into a basket with jar of my homemade Rhubarb Ginger Jam and some sachets of Winter Spice Tea.  Suffice to say, my sweet friend was WOWED with her card and she loved her gift.  And in case you’d like to make some scones for yourself and a friend, you can find my scone recipe by clicking the ‘recipes’ tab at the top of the page.

I don’t know what’s better – making cards and gifts with your own two hands, or the joy of giving it.  Personally, I think they’re both equally satisfying and they both go ‘hand in hand’ together.
Have a lovely weekend, Friends!  HAPPY STAMPING!

AvatarI joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…

Thanks for your kind comments, Ladies! So glad you're having fun with the Card in the Box project – aren't they just the coolest? Eileen, my hubby is from England so every time we visit I have to have a proper scone in a nice little tea shop. If you want my Rhubarb Ginger jam recipe let me know – it's delish (good over ice cream too!). HAPPY STAMPING! xo
