Hi Friends! I was recently inspired by Jennifer McGuire (actually, I’m ALWAY inspired by her) when I saw her technique for “Second Generation” stamping. This technique isn’t ‘new’ as such, but the WAY Jennifer created cards using the ‘Second Generation’ was fabulous! So I gave it a go, using the “Forever Fern” stamp set. In case you haven’t noticed from all my blog posts using this stamp set, I’m a bit obsessed with it. I have a ‘thing’ for leaves, so no surprise to me LOL Anywho…let’s get on with the cards….
- To start off, I cut my Whisper White card stock layers to measure 4″ x 5 1/4″.
- I then placed my stamps onto the stamparatus, using one ink pad at a time. So I used my Shaded Spruce first, stamping onto the first piece of Whisper White card stock.
- Next, I stamped the second piece of Whisper White card stock, without reinking the stamp – thus getting the ‘second generation’. I actually did this a third time, getting three card bases – a dark, medium and light – by only inking the stamps the one time.
- Then I moved onto the next stamp image and ink pad, until I had the entire piece of Whisper White card stock covered.
I also used the flower stamps from the “Birds & Branches” set
- Once all my Whisper White layers were stamped, I cut the centre from each piece using a Stitched Rectangle die.
- I glued the ‘framed’ piece to my card bases.
- The sentiments I used were from the “Country Home” stamp set and the “Kit in Color” Paper Pumpkin Kit (May 2020), which I stamped onto the rectangle die cuts.
- Each sentiment piece was layered onto a piece of card stock and glued onto the centre of each card. I used the darker stamped pieces onto the lighter card frames and vice-versa.
- For some of the cards, I kept the centre of the frame open so that I could emboss the sentiment – pretty much casing some of the card layouts that Jennifer made.
- I also used some card stock banners under the sentiments as well, which had been simply cut with my paper trimmer.
As you can see, one technique, one stamp set (plus the sentiments) and one basic card layout gave me LOTS of great card variations! Give this a try with your stamps – I have a feeling you’ll have as much with this technique as I had. Now it’s time for me to pop these cards in the mail!
