Yee-Haw!

September 12, 2014 Leave a Comment

Hiya Friends!  I have to tell ya, it sure was nice to take some time this morning to create today’s card.  Life has been really crazy the last little while, with one thing after another, and stamping has once again provided the therapy I needed! To bring you up to date with regards to my hubby, he was able to come home from the hospital (yay!) and just had his staples removed yesterday (he had 20 going right up his mid section).  So he is definitely on the mend and now he just has to take it easy for the next few weeks.

My Sweetheart was VERY lucky to have had such a brilliant surgeon (see Aug 31 post if you missed the story).  We found out after surgery that the doctors would have been working to save my hubby’s life, not just his bowel, had the problem not been found. Just goes to show how quickly things can happen (as many of us know) and to be grateful for our loved ones and each day we have with them.  Thank you for your emails and prayers – we both REALLY appreciated them!!

In amongst everything else that has been going on, I’ve still been busy picking our blueberries – there are so many!!!  I’ve been learning a lot as I go, as this is our first experience as ‘blueberry farmers’! LOL  The other day I picked about 55lbs worth of berries in about 2 1/2 hours:

Our blueberries have never been treated with any kind of chemicals so there’s a lot of extra grass and weeds that get caught up in the rake but I don’t mind – it’s just a little extra work.  I just enjoy being outdoors, getting some fresh air and exercise.  Some folks tell me hand-raking blueberries is back-breaking work and they wouldn’t care to ever do it again.  But I really enjoy it.  Yes, I get a bit sore after raking blueberries, but it’s really not a big deal.  And I feel like shouting “BINGO!” every time I find a patch of huge, bright, juicy berries all clustered together.
The darker blueberries are ‘cousins’ of the lighter ones, and are my favourite – they’re so sweet! Mmmmm!
Our neighbour, John, who has 200 acres of berries, has been really helpful showing me the ropes about this whole blueberry business.  I find it all quite interesting and there is a lot to learn, that’s for sure.  In the meantime, I’m just ‘making hay while the sunshines’ and poppin’ in a mouthful or two of berries as I go along…and so are our hounds:

Oh – I almost forgot.  Some of you have emailed asking what we’re doing with all the blueberries.  Well, we sold most of them to a local blueberry buyer and the berries will ultimately end up in Japan (why Japan, I do not know).  But I’ve decided that I am going to start making jellies and jams and other delicious concoctions instead, and sell them at Farmer’s Markets, craft fairs and online.
Last week I started canning and this is my first batch of “Vanilla Spiced Blueberry & Lemon Zest Jelly” and holey caraumba, was it ever good, if I do say so myself.  We couldn’t stop eating it – the first jar is almost gone already – we’ve not only been eating it on toast but with ice-cream too.  I gave a friend some and she ate some that night with her waffles.  Uh oh – I may be on to something here…another business venture perhaps? I’ll keep you posted.

So let’s get on with today’s card, shall we?  Last month Stampin’ Up! released a new photopolymer stamp set called “Yee-Haw” and is it ever cute:

I couldn’t wait to play with this set and today was the day! I had extra supplies already precut from classes last month so I just used those and here’s what I came up with:

Supplies Used:
Yee-Haw Photopolymer Stamp Set
Lucky Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folders

Clear Block C

Big Shot Magnetic Platform

So that’s it for me.  I’ll be back with another post early next week then I’m off to St. George, Utah for Founder’s Circle Retreat.  I’m so thrilled I earned an invitation to attend this exclusive event again this year, as one of the top 20 demonstrators in Canada, and I can’t wait to see all my friends and take time to relax (and enjoy everything that Stampin’ Up! spoils us with!).  Until then, I’ll be taking time with my hubby to enjoy the last of the summer days and marvel at the gorgeous Nova Scotia sunsets…

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
