"Around the World on Wednesday" Blog Hop ~ Favourite Colouring Tools

Hi Friends! It's time again for our monthly "Around the World on Wednesday" blog hop! Our theme is "All Things Crafty", with a focus on our favourite colouring tools. Hmmm - a tough one for me to choose. It came down to either the aqua painters and ink pads, which I use all the time for colouring, OR our "Many Marvelous Markers". I've decided to go with the markers because not everyone is a fan of the aqua painters but you just can't go wrong with our "Stampin' Write Markers"!

I am going to show you a variety of ways I like to use our markers - these are stand by techniques that have never grown old for me! I hope you'll enjoy today's cards!

"Direct to rubber" technique - quite simply, you use your markers directly ONTO your stamps! This has always been one of my favourite ways to use our markers. I used the beautiful "Ornate Style" stamp with a variety of markers on the flowers and leaves.

By the time you've finished colouring the entire image, most of the ink from the markers will have dried. Simply "HUFF" onto the stamp  - your breath will re-moisten the ink.

I just had a thought...aren't you glad that you and your stamps don't need to keep 6 feet apart? You know, with huffin' on it, and all? Just my warped sense of humour kickin' in. Anywho, moving along...the sentiments are from the "Ornate Thanks" stamp set, which is part of our new "Ornate Garden Suite".

This is such an EASY way to add colour to your stamps! It's ideal for the new stamper who doesn't have a lot of supplies, but it's also a beautiful technique for anyone to use! Now, here's a variation of the exact same technique only this time I gave the stamp a light mist of water before stamping it onto my card stock:

I love the soft look that you achieve with this marker technique!

Next up, the "Thumping Technique"! Here's an oldie but a goodie! By tapping (aka thumping) your markers onto a pre-inked stamp you'll achieve a beautiful multi-coloured look!

I used the "Colorful Seasons" stamp set (which is retiring this month). First, I used an ink pad on the leaf image, then I "thumped" on various colours of markers:

It may not look like much at first, but trust me, this technique is pretty cool!

Here is the finished card, using the Ornate Layers Dies:

I also used markers on the sentiment, giving it a two-tone look!

Because I couldn't resist, here's a variation of this card, same technique & stamps, but this time I added a mist of water prior to stamping the leaves....

Another popular way that you can use our Stampin' Write Markers to create incredible backgrounds! Swipe your markers across one of our clear acrylic blocks, mist with water and stamp the block on card stock! You can use our Watercolor Paper, Shimmery White card stock or even the Whisper White card stock will work. The trick is to hold the block in place a few moments which will allow the water to absorb into the paper. The results are always different and ALWAYS stunning!

For this card I used the "Above the Clouds" stamp set (retiring this month). I also added a bit of clear embossing to the balloon and sentiment. To do this, I used the Stamparatus and after I stamped the images in black, I cleaned the stamps and inked a second time with versamark, then used my clear emboss powder and set with my heat tool.

Notice anything else about this card that's pretty fun? The ribbon, maybe? Yeppers! I used my markers directly onto the ribbon which made it coordinate PERFECTLY with my card!

There are so many ways we can use our "Stampin' Write Markers" ~ I hope the few techniques that I shared with you today have inspired you to pull out your markers too and have a play with them.
