Stamping Techniques Using Pastel Chalks – Candles & Tiles Coasters!

July 5, 2021 2 Comments

Hi Friends! Did you know that you can stamp onto candles? If not, hang on to yer hat, because you’re going to be blown away with this awesome project! To kick it up a notch, I’m also going to show you how to stamp on tiles to create beautiful coasters too! To complete this gift set, in my video I demonstrate a super pretty one-layer card to pull everything together! Of course, the Soft Assortment Pastel Chalks are the star of the show and I’m excited to share these techniques with you today!

Soft Assortment Pastels

All you need to make beautiful candles are your stamps, black ink, our Soft Assortment Pastel chalks, white tissue paper, wax paper and a heat tool!
You don’t have to stamp a large piece of tissue paper, as I did on this candle. You could just stamp a smaller image (butterfly, flower, dragonfly, snowflakes – ANYTHING) and adhere it to your candle the same way I did my candle shown in the video. You could also add another stamped piece of tissue paper with the sentiment. There is no limit to all the possibilities when stamping onto candles!

I love creating tile coasters that coordinate with a stamped candle for a pretty gift!
It’s important to use Stazon ink when you’re stamping onto the tile, otherwise, the ink will blur and bleed when sealed. To seal the tile coaster you can use any acrylic sealer. I’ve used a variety of sealers over the years, with no problems. You may want to try Mod Podge, but I’ve not used it on my coasters, so I can’t guarantee good results. I also know that some people bake their tile coasters, which means they don’t have to spray a sealant over top, but again, I’ve never done this myself.

What’s a gift without a hand-stamped card? Especially one that matches the gifts! This is just a one-layer card, super simple but pretty. I used Basic White card stock and stamped my images with Black Memento ink. I applied my chalks with my Water Painters, which I love doing! The chalk just glides on the paper like buttah, when you’re using them with the water painter!

Just remember that you will need to take precautions, should you decide to light your candle (you don’t want to take the chance of the tissue paper catching on fire!). I LOVE how the stamped images glow when the candles are lit so I always burn the wax down just low enough to add a tea light. Of course, you can also use a battery tea light (or pillar candle) too.

I’ll have the last video (part 5) featuring more techniques using the pastel chalks ready for you this weekend. As you can see, I LOVE our Soft Assortment Pastels! I hope you’ve been enjoying my chalk series and all the different ways and techniques I’ve been sharing with you!

Enjoy the day, stay well, and HAPPY STAMPING!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
