Ornate Style Card

June 9, 2020 Leave a Comment

Hi Friends! Do you ever start a card and then set it aside, not quite sure how to finish it? Such was the case with the card I’m sharing with you today. Before our Pigment Sprinkles retired, I had another play with them. I must say, I LOVE these powders for creating backgrounds – especially for mixed media projects & cards. I wanted to create a bright background to stamp on for this card.

To start, I sprinkled the powders onto our watercolour card stock, which I had lightly misted with water. As the Pigment Sprinkles are no longer available, a similar effect can be achieved by swiping across inks or even our watercolor pencils. Once my background was dry, I stamped the large flower image from the “Ornate Style” set on top using White Craft ink. However, it didn’t stand out as much as I had hoped, so I set it aside, not sure how to complete the card but also not wanting to toss it in the bin either.

A week or so ago, I ‘found’ this unfinished card and decided to add a top layer of vellum, with the flower image stamped in black. To add the vellum layer to the card, I sponged a light layer of glue behind the back. Then I layered the piece onto card stock and added a sentiment from my stash of Paper Pumpkin stamps. I used a white gel pen to the centre of each little flower. In the end, I think the card turned out not to badly! Moral of the story, don’t throw away your cards if they don’t turn out the way you had hoped or if you end up drawing a blank on how to finish them. Set it aside and come back to it later – it’s amazing how the new ideas you come up with will just fall into place!

AvatarI joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
